Annual Day of Reflection

On June 8th, some members of our parish joined together on the annual day of reflection held at the Rosmini Centre near Ratcliffe on the Wreak. The leader of the day was Fr Colin Patey, a retired priest from our Diocese.

We began with a reflection about the significance of breath in scripture, and particularly Pentecost. Fr Colin led us to think about how the ministry of Jesus was like the gestation period of the Church followed by its birth into the world at Pentecost.

The group took part in Benediction before enjoying lunch together. Fr Colin led us in another reflection, when we considered how we can be missionary disciples in everyday life. The day ended with the extended form of Pentecost Vigil Mass and (another) cuppa.

A huge thank you to the Rosmini Centre for hosting the day, Fr Colin for leading us, Maureen and Bernard for organising the day, and Karen and Anna for bringing cake.

Father Vincent’s Bore Hole Project at St Jude’s Primary School

We are delighted to announce that the Parish has now raised £5,500 to provide a fresh water supply to St. Jude’s school. Fr. Vincent managed to complete the project before leaving for his new Parish.

Special thanks to our Children’s Liturgy group, who suggested the symbolic idea of parishioners filling small water bottles at home, with silver coins. This raised an incredible £440 which rounded off the project. Also thanks to two generous donations and several fund raising projects by parishioners, we achieved the total amount in little over a year.

Fr Vincent and the School are very grateful.

Love in a Box

Thank you for wanting to support the charity CHILDREN IN DISTRESS by filling a shoebox. There are plenty of shoeboxes with the relevant information and labels available this weekend as well as some starter packs to get the ball rolling. Further details from Ann Robinson or Tel: 0115 9374470.

We especially need counters on the day of Fayre, helpers to run the Raffle on the day, and more volunteers to support the organisers.
If you think you would be interested in helping please email the Parish office at;
Please show your support, as we really need your help. It is only one day of the year!
